Proper tire inflation and wheel alignment will also go a long way to ensuring both a comfortable and safe ride.  Most cars have the manufacturer's recommended tire pressure on the driver's doorjam.  It's also a good idea to have your car aligned whenever you change your tires or perform suspension work.
